DCE202: Teaching the Language Skills at the Upper Primary Level

Course Description

This course is for students who wish to specialise in teaching English in the upper primary.  They will learn how to teach language across the curriculum through strategies to teach reading, writing and oral skills for inquiry and research.  Students will also learn how to teach language for literary response and expression in order to encourage children’s critical and creative thinking.  In addition, students will learn appropriate and alternative methods of assessment.  Throughout the course, students will be shown how to evaluate and select texts out of the complete range of genres and modes created for children, for use in the upper primary multicultural classroom.
