IPD0026: Using Case Studies as a Problem-Solving &
Teaching-Learning Tool in Junior Colleges

Course Description

Case studies which often deal with human subjects and their problems have traditionally resided in the disciplines of law, business, and medicine. It is only recently that they begin to feature as a pedagogical tool in education. This course will discuss how case studies could effectively be used as a versatile technique for teaching and learning content subjects such as English Literature, Economics and History, as well as for assisting students to write better argumentative essays in the General Paper. The same technique could also be employed to resolve staff and resource management problems in the academic work environment. In short, this course will demonstrate how case studies, as a problem-solving tool, could be modified and applied to accommodate academic and non-academic subjects or any related disciplines which present “critical incidents” that allow participants to offer different viewpoints to some outstanding issue.
