Course Description

This course provides an introduction to the relationship between language and society and to the processes of first and second language acquisition. It will also explore language in its social context, focusing on concepts such as language variation, language and context, language planning and cross-cultural communication and examine theories of language acquisition, the development of linguistic and communicative competence in children, bilingualism, and the affective and social factors involved in language learning.
